Tips

Apply in the late afternoon or early morning, avoiding the hottest part of the day and direct sunlight. This is a contact product; use it only when you detect an active pest infestation (aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, mites). Repeat every 3 or 4 days if the infestation persists. The diluted solution will keep for up to one month if tightly sealed. Keep the concentrated soap and caustic potash out of the reach of children and pets.

Preparation process

1) Put on gloves and safety goggles; caustic potash is corrosive. 2) Slowly pour the caustic potash into the distilled water (never the other way around), stirring until it is completely dissolved. 3) Gradually add the vegetable oil, stirring constantly. 4) Continue mixing until you achieve a smooth, homogeneous, puree-like texture. 5) Let the mixture sit for 24 to 48 hours in a cool place, out of the reach of children and pets. 6) To use: Dilute 25 g of this prepared soap per liter of water. Set aside 20% of the total water, heat it without bringing it to a boil, dissolve the soap in it, and then mix it with the rest of the water in the spray bottle.

Ingredients

  • Water
  • Potassium hydroxide (caustic potash)
  • Vegetable oil

Tools and equipment

Product obtained

A soft, paste-like soap whose color varies depending on the oil used, with contact insecticidal and acaricidal action: it suffocates soft-bodied insects such as aphids, whiteflies, mealybugs, and mites.
