Borax or boric acid [H3BO3]
Boron compounds: borax is a sodium borate salt and boric acid (H3BO3) is a weak acid of boron.
Characteristics
- Boron is an essential micronutrient involved in building plant cell walls.
- The gap between boron deficiency and excess is narrower than for other nutrients.
- In the EU, boric acid and disodium tetraborate are listed as toxic for reproduction.
- Both dissolve in water; boric acid gives a weakly acidic solution.
Role in the preparation: Supplies the micronutrient boron in mineral preparations, dissolved in water.
Caution: Reproductive toxicants: avoid ingestion and dust, wear gloves and a mask, keep away from children, food and feed, and check local regulations before any use.
