Native forest leaf litter and humus

Native forest litter and humus are the surface layer of plant debris and humus found in an undisturbed forest.

Characteristics

  • Combines slightly decomposed debris with humus, a stable dark organic matter.
  • Contains a diverse community of fungi and bacteria typical of the local forest.
  • Material showing visible white mycelium is traditionally sought.
  • Supplies nutrients released by the breakdown of leaves and branches.

Role in the preparation: Used as a local microbial inoculum in the solid phase of mountain microorganisms (MM), fermented in a closed container.

Caution: Collect only small amounts outside nature reserves, with permission, removing the top layer without damaging the soil, and wear gloves.
