Seaweed

Fresh or dried seaweed (brown or red) used to make extracts and fertilisers.

Characteristics

• An extract of red seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii fermented with molasses contained 0.30% N, 0.15% P₂O₅ and 2.46% K₂O (Marajuli and Bangi, 2024).
• Provides potassium, trace elements and growth substances.

Role in the preparation: Fermented extract sprayed diluted, or rinsed seaweed for compost.

Caution: Only harvest where permitted and from clean sites; rinse off the salt; check local regulations before any use.
