⚠️ Protective equipment required for this preparation

This recipe involves handling products that may be irritating or toxic. Always wear the following equipment:

Biofertilizers Maceration Mixed (several origins)

Maceration

Cold extraction by prolonged soaking of the plant material in a liquid (water, oil or alcohol depending on use), without heat. The longer contact time than an infusion extracts compounds that cold water alone would dissolve too slowly.

Process summary

1) Chop or crush the plant material. 2) Fully submerge it in the chosen liquid, in a closed container. 3) Let it sit in a cool, dark place, stirring occasionally, for anywhere from several hours to several days depending on the preparation. 4) Strain and use the resulting liquid.

✅ Authorised EU Bio-inputs in the European Union

Liquid extract of worm humus, which can be enriched with a little potassium hydroxide, validated by the Bogotá Botanical Garden (Colombia) in its urban gardens as a foliar and root feed; according to the source it improves soil life and root development.

Application

Application description: Sprayed or watered on, every 3 days under normal conditions.

Dose: 2.5 ml per litre of water.

Tips

Potassium hydroxide is corrosive: gloves and goggles, and keep away from children. In very dry weather the source advises applying more often while learning to adjust the rate.

Preparation process

Step A – liquid humus
1. Mix the worm humus and water in a bucket.
2. Leave for 48 hours.
3. Filter through cloth and store in opaque containers.
Step B – enriched
1. Mix 2 L of liquid humus with 3 g of potassium hydroxide (wearing gloves and goggles).
2. Stir for 1 minute every day for 4 days.
3. Filter through cloth and store in opaque containers.

Ingredients

  • Water ⓘ — 0.66 gal
  • Mature compost or worm castings ⓘ — 1.102 lb
  • Potassium hydroxide (KOH) ⓘ — 0.106 oz
  • Step A: ½ kg worm humus; 2.5 L rain or standing water. Step B (optional): 2 L of the liquid humus; 3 g potassium hydroxide.

Tools and equipment

  • Strainer or filter cloth
  • Dark glass or opaque plastic storage container
  • Protective gloves, goggles and mask
  • Plastic buckets (never metal)

Goggles, gloves and mask required

Preparation time

2 days (step A) + 4 days (step B).

Product obtained

Bio-inputs in the European Union Bio-preparations authorised in the European Union

In the European Union, humic and fulvic acids are permitted as fertilisers in organic production if obtained with inorganic salt solutions, excluding ammonium salts, as here with potassium hydroxide (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1165, Annex II). A fertiliser made solely for the farm's own use falls outside Regulation (EU) 2019/1009, which covers products placed on the market.
