EU-approved basic substance (herbicide use)
Weed management Bio-inputTreated leaves dry out within hours to a few days; young plants are the most sensitive.
Application description: Spot spraying, directly onto young weeds, on a sunny, windless day, 24 to 48 hours or more after the last rain. Vinegar is not selective: do not wet crop plants.
Dose: Approved uses: in aromatic, medicinal and perfume crops, undiluted vinegar, about 10 kg acetic acid per hectare (about 100 litres of 10 % vinegar). On paths, edges and terraces, 60 % vinegar, spot application only.
Wear gloves and glasses: 10 % vinegar irritates eyes and skin. Treat only the target plants, with no run-off into ditches, ponds or drains. The effect is by contact: it acts on young above-ground parts, not on deep roots; repeat if needed. Do not use stronger cleaning vinegars (14 % or more): they are not covered by the approval.
1) Check on the label that the vinegar is food grade and does not exceed 10 % acidity. 2) For use within aromatic, medicinal or perfume plant crops, use it undiluted. 3) For paths, edges, pavements and terraces, mix 6 parts vinegar with 4 parts water (60 % vinegar). 4) Fill a clean hand or knapsack sprayer kept for this use only.
