Russia: organic production is governed by Federal Law 280-FZ of 2018 “On organic production”, in force since 2020, and by standards GOST 33980-2016 and GOST R 56508-2015. GOST 33980-2016 lists the accepted fertilisers and soil improvers (manure and compost, wood ash, plant and microbial preparations…) and bans synthetic fertilisers and pesticides. Only certified producers entered in the national register may use the “organic” label. Agrochemicals, including biological ones, must be registered to be sold. A farmer or dacha gardener who makes these recipes for their own plot, without selling or claiming the label, is not bound by these rules.
