Plant-feeding mites are tiny arachnids, often invisible to the naked eye, that feed by emptying the cells of leaves, shoots and fruit. The main groups are spider mites (Tetranychidae), eriophyid mites causing galls, erineum or russeting (Eriophyidae), and tarsonemid mites that distort young shoots; they multiply very quickly in hot, dry conditions. Symptoms include pale stippling, bronzing or silvering of leaves and fruit, felty blisters on leaf undersides and twisted shoots, on grapevine, citrus, fruit trees, tomato and ornamentals.
