Traditional liquid feed from Russian kitchen gardens (dachas): wood ash sits in water in the sun for a few days and gives a liquid rich in potassium, with calcium, phosphorus and trace elements, for watering fruit trees, shrubs and vegetables.
Application description: Root watering for fruit trees and shrubs; measured watering or spraying for vegetables and flowers.
Dose: About 0.5 L of diluted infusion per plant; up to 40 L for a large fruit tree.
Ash is alkaline: wear gloves and goggles when handling it. Do not use on acid-loving plants (hydrangea, conifers, sorrel, watermelon, camellias). Burn only clean wood: never chipboard, painted or treated wood, plastic, rubber or printed or glossy paper. Do not add potash or phosphate fertilisers on top, to avoid excess. Hardwood ash is richer in potassium; conifer ash in calcium.
1. Tip the ash into a barrel holding 200 L of water (or 1 L of ash per 20 L of water).
2. Leave the barrel in a warm, sunny spot and stir every day.
3. After 3 days, dilute the infusion half and half with warm water.
4. Strain through gauze.
Goggles, gloves and mask required
3 days.
Greyish, cloudy, alkaline liquid.
