Chile: organic production is governed by an official text (Ley 20.089 y el Decreto 2/2016 del Ministerio de Agricultura (normas técnicas, art. 17)). Its list of permitted inputs includes, among others: compost, manure (not from factory farming), microbial preparations, plant preparations and extracts. Several substances are only allowed with the certification body's approval or under conditions (marked 'restricted'). These rules apply to anyone selling certified organic products. A farmer who makes and uses these recipes on their own farm, without claiming certification, is not bound by them, but must comply with the general rules on fertilisers and pesticides.
