Ecuador: organic production is governed by an official text (Resolución 0099 de 2013 de Agrocalidad (Instructivo de la Normativa General de la producción orgánica, art. 18)). Its list of permitted inputs includes, among others: compost, manure (not from factory farming), microbial preparations. These rules apply to anyone selling certified organic products. A farmer who makes and uses these recipes on their own farm, without claiming certification, is not bound by them, but must comply with the general rules on fertilisers and pesticides.
