Resin (latex) of the Amazonian catahua or sandbox tree, collected by cutting the bark and diluted in water, used by peri-urban farmers in Peru.
Application description: Sprayed with a backpack sprayer at 10 and 20 days after germination or, according to the source, every 6 days. In rainy weather the source adds prickly-pear or agave juice as a sticker.
Dose: 10 ml resin in 20 L of water; 100 ml in 200 L of water per hectare.
Hura crepitans latex is highly toxic and irritating to skin and eyes: gloves, goggles and long clothing are essential; keep away from children and animals. Use the resin straight away or, according to the source, heat it without boiling (below 80 °C) to keep it about 15 days. Before any use, check your country's regulations: in the EU, a homemade preparation presented for plant-protection use is not authorised.
1. The day before, tie a rope around the trunk and cover it with mud or clay, leaving a small channel; let it dry.
2. Place a bucket underneath and cut the bark above the channels.
3. Strain the resin to remove wood debris.
4. Dilute in the water.
