Authorised bio-preparations: Japan
Japan
Japan: organic production is governed by an official text (Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) for organic plants (MAFF), tables A.1 and B.1). Its list of permitted inputs includes, among others: compost, manure (not from factory farming), sulphur, lime sulphur, copper (Bordeaux mixture), with limits, slaked lime, bicarbonate, vinegar, wood ash, rock dust. These rules apply to anyone selling certified organic products. A farmer who makes and uses these recipes on their own farm, without claiming certification, is not bound by them, but must comply with the general rules on fertilisers and pesticides.
