Smoking the closed greenhouse with hot-chilli seeds burnt on embers, practised in family greenhouses on the Bolivian altiplano.
Application description: Once a week in the greenhouse, according to the source; two or three smoke points for 220 m².
Dose: 100 g of seeds per smoke point.
Chilli smoke is highly irritating to eyes and airways: leave the greenhouse while smoking and do not re-enter before ventilating; fire risk from the embers. Before any use, check your country's regulations: in the EU, a homemade preparation presented for plant-protection use is not authorised.
1. Close the greenhouse and prepare the brazier in the afternoon.
2. Throw the seeds (with the manure) on the well-lit embers.
3. Keep the smoke going for 15 minutes, in two or three spots depending on size.
4. Ventilate for 30 minutes and close until the next day.
Goggles, gloves and mask required
About 45 minutes.
Pungent smoke.
