Water
Universal solvent and main carrier of almost every liquid bio-preparation.
Characteristics
- Dissolves sugars, salts and soluble plant compounds during infusions and macerations.
- Its pH and alkalinity (bicarbonates) influence the final pH of the mixture.
- Hardness, dissolved salts, sodium and chloride vary with the source.
- Mains water may contain residual chlorine, which affects fermentation microorganisms.
Role in the preparation: Acts as solvent and carrier for extraction, dilution and fermentation in plant purines, macerations, broths and biol.
Caution: Use clean water of known origin, test pH and alkalinity when possible, and avoid untested runoff or recycled water.
